Watch out, the soapbox is coming out! How fucked up is the format when a band like Queens Of The Stone Age can't get considerable airplay in this "hard rock" climate. I'm not talking about some committal flyaway ADD neither. I'm urging people to take this band as serious as some of the wussy shit out there right now that is currently getting sizeable airplay.
Last night (10/5/00) at the Metro in Chicago had to be one of the best live shows I've seen in a long time. There were no pyro technics, no fly girls, and no dumb ass toilet props on stage trying to generate crowd response-it was a fucking slamming rock and roll show PERIOD. QOTSA is sooooo underrated it is pathetic. I'm convinced that radio has lost its passion for the music and the business. It's all about going through the motions and lining your pockets with worthless trivial crap that is useless to everyone involved. Joshua and the rest of QOTSA played to a Fire Marshall's worst nightmare, an over-sold show. His riffs were so massive and on par that Kirk Hammett should consider hanging up his stick and selling Golden Gate tour guides. Why was it over sold? Why does anyone care about this band? Why would anyone take time out from listening to their favorite radio station to check out a band being bamboozled by corporate radio? If it were up to me, I'd be lining this band up with my upcoming radio events/shows. This balls-to-the-wall showing from a band puts all that other shit to shame. So continue to keep this band under lock and key and whatever you do DON'T TELL ANYONE! We wouldn't want these guys to become the next BIG THING. Oh yeah, hey Hanjobbie thanks for the booze and the one-armed pool playing.
