The Deftones, along with the clothing company Fuct, have donated $5,000 to the Texas editor who was fired Oct. 27 for running a picture of the band with frontman, Chico Moreno, sporting a Fuct sweatshirt. We originally commented on this story last week and how completely moronic the whole situation is, but letís reiterate ñ the fact that any newspaper would fire an editor because of a picture displaying a brand of clothing called ìFuctî is absolutely back-assed ridiculous and unbelievable. The ousted editor, Nora Garza, was fired abruptly from her post at the McAllen Monitor because other editors at the paper found the photo ìembarrassing, offensive, and one of the top 10 editing blunders in the paper's history,î according to the San Antonio Express-News.
Chico Moreno, commenting on his donation, said ìAll of us feel terrible about Mrs. Garza being fired and wanted to do something to help her out, especially when we were told the paper didn't give her much of a severance. To be honest, I'm offended that a newspaper has no problem running gruesome photos of dead bodies or horrifically malnourished people, but fires a woman for running a photo that contains a word that resembles an obscenity." Moreno and Fuct owner Erik Brunetti are sending Garza the check to help with bills and rent until she finds a new job.
