Having dumped the carcass of dead weight that is a little beat and a bass-line,
Ben Folds is branching out all on his lonesome this time around. He's holed up in his adopted Australian home and has already recorded nearly half the material for his first solo effort, which is expected to be released around summer 2001. This will be his third release under a deal with 550 Music/Epic, and so far, it's truly a solo record as Ben has been the only musician working on the set at all. Control freak, anyone?
Fold's recently folded the Ben Fold's Five trio ñ including bassist Robert Sledge and drummer Darren Jesse -- after three relatively successful releases: 1995's self-titled album; 1997's "Whatever and Ever Amen," which spawned the radio hit "Brick"; and last year's "The Unauthorized Biography of Reinhold Messner."
