The New Year has barely begun and already the package tours and benefit concerts are
in full swing. This time around it's the annual Tibet House Benefit Concert at Carnegie
Hall in New York City. Headlining the bill for the 11th annual show are David
Bowie, Moby, Natalie Merchant and Patti Smith. The concert is a benefit
in conjunction with the Monlam Great Prayer Festival, a 600 year-old tradition
coinciding with the Tibetan New Year, with this year being the year of the Iron Snake.
Also due to appear at the February 26th show include such varied acts as Emmylou
Harris, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Dana Bryant, the Gomang monks and the
event's artistic director, modern classical composer, Philip Glass.
