Lowgold may hail from St. Albans in the UK, but if their sound was any indicator, they
might as well reside in Anytown, USA. The quartet write melancholy pop songs, full of ache as
well as melody, bringing to mind Built To Spill at their quietest or a shinier Red House
Painters. “Mercury” is their third single for Nude Records, home of Suede, and it is
perhaps their best effort to date. For those who still make crush tapes for loved ones, this song is
one you’ll remember when it’s taping time.
