Rancid and Pennywise will headline this years Vans Warped Tour, slated to kick off in July. The Warped Tour veterans will be joined by Dropkick Murphys, Bouncing Souls, Less Than Jake, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, and New Found Glory. No Doubt is still up in the air as a third headliner. Rancid will be promoting an intense side project courtesy of guitarist Lars Frederikson and singer-guitarist Tim Armstrong called Lars Frederikson and the Bastards. The self titled album will fight the power on March 20 on Hellcat / Epitaph.
Daft Punk will be extending their cyber space hand to fans, and asking them to come along for the ride. Once fans purchase the new Daft Punk experience Discovery on March 12, fans can join the exclusive Daft club by putting the CD into their CD-ROM drive. Members will then be able to access exclusive interview footage, videos and other 'digital surprises'. Guy-Manuel de Homern-Christo and
Thomas Bangalter could not be reached for comment, since they unfortunately "died" when their sampler exploded in September '99, leaving two robots responsible for Discovery.
Scotland's favorite rockers Mogwai will release their new album Rock Action, 23 April via their new label Southpaw, a
subsidiary of the Belgian imprint Play It Again Sam. Matador will release the album in the US. Mogwai will play a special one off gig at Gaukurinn Hall in
Reykjavik on 14 March. "Rock Action" was produced by Mercury Rev and Flaming Lips prod guru Dave Fridmann at his upstate New York studio. A spokesperson at Matador, the band's US
label, described the record as "the most beautiful album
I've ever heard".
The Pharcyde will unload a greatest hits album called Cydeways. The album will feature nine tracks from Bizarre Ride To The Pharcyde, five from Labcabincalifornia, and one unreleased track called Painty Raid. Nothing from their latest Plain Rap CD, or Testing The Waters EP appears on Cydeways. Pharcyde is currently wrapping their US tout, and are gearing for Europe and beyond at the beginning of February.
