In another huge blow to the world of electronica (well, at least its commercial viability), The New York stop of Creamfields, the UKís biggest dance festival (which was supposed to be making its U.S. debut this summer), has been canceled due to poor ticket sales. Late last week both Creamfields Las Vegas and another big dance festival, Mekka, got the ax due to similar problems. The New York leg was slated to feature some of the biggest names in the dance world including Fatboy Slim, Orbital, Crystal Method, Stereo MCs, Richie Hawtin, Darren Emerson and Josh Wink.
According to Danny Wirtz, co-founder of the electronica label, Mederna, "The main problem is that those big promoters don't realize that raver kids aren't gonna buy tickets way in advance. The bulk will be sold the week of the show." Well, now we'll never know.
