Live: Orbital Drops Beats For Insane Dungeon Population

Is there some direct correlation between getting dropped and losing all your fans who look
normal? I don't think I've ever heard this theory spoken before, but I sure felt like I viewed it
tonight at the Orbital show in San Francisco. Sadly, the best live electronic act in the
world is now without a US label. And even sadder still, the crowd at their show LOOKED
LIKE THEY BELONGED AT A ROLE PLAYING GAME CONVENTION. Jesus hell, it
was D&D central in this place. Listen, I'm not saying I'm not funny looking, but these
people were definitely a different variety of funny looking, like VERY. Tons of dudes with
ponytails or mullets, girls from God-knows-where. It was truly sad. They looked like an
electronic show crowd is accused of looking, circa 1989. I had never seen a sorrier sight than
this. Oh yeah, a band played, too...The brothers Hartnoll busted out a number of
jams, from old-skool faves "Halcyon" and "Satan" to recent album The Altogether
highlights "Funny Break (One Is Enough)" and "Illuminate" featuring a vocal track from
David Gray. The band was great, but I was too perplexed by the druids and clerics
scattered about to think straight. Beware the dodecahedron.
