Returning to the fray with the passion of a prizefighter, London-via-Manchester drum and
bass duo Lamb hit back with "Gabriel." This is a beautifully sweeping ballad, with
Louise Rhodes' gorgeous voice lilting over Andy Barlow's beat selection.
Far more subdued, beatwise, than the band's two previous works, 1996's self titled debut and
1999's Fear of Fours, the first single from What Sound is really just a pop
gem, the kind of song that US top 40 wishes it could possess and the kind of song
soundtracks kill for. A swirling and clattering piece that exudes emotion, "Gabriel" is a vital
piece of any collection in 2001.
