Blur To Be First Rock Band On Mars

Brit-rockers Blur have written and recorded a song that will be launched into space aboard Beagle 2, a search probe bound for Mars in 2003. The song will be used as a beacon that will be beamed back to earth to signal the craftís safe landing on the red planet. According to NME, the track is also called "Beagle 2," after the ship Charles Darwin sailed to the Galapogos Islands during his research for Origin Of The Species. "Beagle 2" was featured as a b-side to the "No Distance Left To Run" single from the bandís 1999 album 13. Blur bassist Alex James and drummer Dave Rowntree are in the studio today to digitize the track so that it may be uploaded to the probe. Blur frontman Damon Albarn is currently busy pretending to be a Gorilla in the States but he still calls his "Blur buddies" every other Saturday at noon so they know he still loves them.
