Former Digable Planet Currently Digging Cherry Wine

One third of the Grammy Award winning hip-hop trio Digable Planets has resurfaced as the frontman of a new urban-beat troop called Cherrywine. Ishmael Butler, better known as Butterfly from his Digable past, took the stage on Sunday (February 10) opening for Coolio in Salt Lake City. The concert was part of the 17 date Big Air Action Sports and Music Festival, which coincides with the Winter Olympic games. According to a spokesperson at DCide Records, Cherrywine signed to the Washington D.C. based label last October, and is scheduled to release an as-yet-untitled new album this summer. No one really knows what to expect from Butler, but no matter what path he decides to take, I bet itís gonna be "Cool Like Dat" da da da da. In other Ishmael Butler news, the star played the lead role in I Am Ali, an independent short film written and directed by VIBE magazine writer Dream Hampton. The film was screened at the Sundance Film Festival last month.
