Live: South / Elbow Heat Up Chicagoís Frigid Winter

Braving the bitter cold and projected 6-10 inches of snow, two of the UKís finest plowed their way into the windy city for an evening of solid entertainment. Elbow kicked things off just before 11p.m. and treated the crowd to about an hourís worth of tripped out rock songs taken from the bandís debut LP, Asleep In The Back. Outstanding versions of "Red" and "Powder Blue" were met with rousing applause from the slightly older crowd and frontman Guy Garvey didnít miss a note the entire evening. South graced the stage around midnight and ripped right into the silky smooth instrumental "Broken Head I" followed closely by a personal favorite, "Paint The Silence." Between-song instrument trading confirmed the bandís roster of talented multi-instrumentalists and made for an exciting set. The multi-layered sound and rich texture of the bandís debut, From Here On In, was impeccably re-produced in the live setting and very impressive overall. South is one of the best live bands I have ever seen and their set alone was worth freezing my ass off over. Go see these guys, you wonít be disappointed.
