Counting Crows Look To Lillywhite For Hard Candy

California-based rockers Counting Crows will release their fourth studio album this summer. Entitled Hard Candy and released via Geffen, the album features producer Steve Lillywhite of U2 and Dave Matthews Band fame, as well as a guest appearance by Ryan Adams. Lillywhite was actually the third producer brought in on the project. According to Billboard, Eric Valentine (Smash Mouth) and Ethan Johns (Ryan Adams / Emmylou Harris) were both brought in but had a hard time gelling with the band. In addition to material for Hard Candy, Counting Crows also recorded an albumís worth of cover songs, including "Someday I Will Treat You Good" (Sparklehorse), "Amie" (Pure Prairie League), and "Ask" (The Smiths). These songs will most likely be included on a bonus disc or used as B-sides on European singles. Counting Crows will be the opening act for the Whoís summer North American tour.
