An open bar is always a good thing. Mooonshine Music knows that. On a night in Los Angeles that saw Timo Maas spinning downtown and Zero 7 playing their own showcase, Moonshine invited industry swingas and bling blingas to come check out Cirrus' new live show. The early open bar got folks into the club, but the beats and musical magic from Cirrus kept them there. As folks mingled and schmoozed, a giant screen behind the stage played the new Moonshine audio/visual DVDs over the booming soundsytem. The crowd was a mixture of press, artists, managers, record label folks and other industry cognoscente.
At approximately 10:30, the band took the stage. Hot off the heels of their performance out at Coachella a few weeks back, Cirrus performed three crowd-moving breakbeat tracks; "Ghettoblaster" and "Breakbeat Suckers" led into the breakbeat barrage of their classic "Break In" which dissolved into the beginings of "Dragon Lounge." That was when singer Laura Derby came out and the crowd was quite mesmerized. Laura's amazing and sultry voice carried into "Boomerang" and the audience of about 250 heads dug it. The set continued with some more of their signature breakbeat including "Drop the Break" and the new "Straight Laid Out" and then 45 minutes after they had begun Cirrus finished off with "Half a Cell." Laura's powerful voice served as a climax to the energy of the night. A tight set. A happy crowd. A good night. I saw guys and girls dancin'....Counterfeit will be released on Moonshine Music on June 25.
