No, this doesn't really have anything to do with music, but, damn, it's Mike Tyson.
It's like watching the aftermath of a car crash. You know it's wrong, but you can't tear
yourself away. It seems Mr. Tyson was headed for a workout facility in Memphis in
order to train for his bout with Lennox Lewis. Outside the gym, a gay rights
demonstration was being held and one of the people present shouted to Iron Mike to
stop homophobia. ESPN.com then reports that Tyson walked up to the man and
HUGGED HIM. Tyson then told the man, vice-chairperson of Equality Tennessee
Jim Maynard that he wasn't homophobic. Maynard told ESPN, "I was
totally shocked,. I didn't really know what to do. So I just posed with him and smiled for the
cameras." Tyson managed to wreck a bit of his good will with his statement as he
left the building, however. "Listen. Listen. I'm not homophobic; I told them I'm not
homophobic. So if I use a homophobic term ... I'm not homophobic.'' Trying to use it as a
"get out of jail free card" for next time he slurs someone, perhaps?
