Metallica Turn Up For Surprise Club Gig

Veteran metalheads Metallica took to the stage Tuesday night (6/4) for the first time since frontman James Hetfield was released from rehab. The band, who recently said during a web chat that it would not tour with producer Bob Rock (currently playing bass on Metallicaís upcoming album), brought old Bob along for the ride and even introduced themselves as ìBobís band.î Billed as Spun for the small gig at Kimoís in San Francisco, Metallica (avec Bob Rock) tore through 11 songs on the evening, though Hetfield performed sitting down due to injuries incurred over years of on-stage head banging. Let this be a lesson to you kids: ìhead bang responsibly and only with proper neck and back support.î According to MTV, the show was kicked off with four Ramones covers, including ìCommando,î ìToday Your Love, Tomorrow the World,î ì53rd & 3rdî and ìNow I Wanna Sniff Some Glue.î The rest of the set was made up mostly of older material and a new track. No songs recorded after 1986ís Master of Puppets were included, save for ìI Disappearî from the Mission: Impossible 2 soundtrack. The metal giants are now back in the studio recording their next hard rock masterpiece.
