Metallica Frontman Saves Lucas Valley from Suburbanization

James Hetfield, frontman of metal giants Metallica, has donated a large portion of land in California's Lucas Valley to the County's Department of Parks, Open Space & Cultural Development. By doing so, Hetfield has guaranteed that the 438.5-acre chunk of land will be preserved and taken care of by the county. The rocker did keep a bit of land for himself, however. According to CNN.com, James and wife Francesca are planning to build a 14,000-square-foot house, swimming pool, and 6,000-square-foot studio/garage/caretaker's residence on that land. County Supervisor Steve Kinsey said of the donation, "I'm very excited about this easement and I consider it to be a generous offer on the part of the Hetfields. It puts another nail in the coffin for suburban sprawl in Lucas Valley." Rock & Roll!
