The 2002 MTV Video Music Awards was rather embarrassing for everyone that participated, but nothing could compare to Michael Jackson's awkward acceptance speech for an award that did not exist. Yesterday was the horribly disfigured pop star's birthday and to kick off the show, MTV asked the intellectual brainchild Britney Spears to present the birthday boy with a cake. Everything went horribly wrong, and I don?t mean Jackson?s face. Spears, who is as smart as a box of broken glass, decided to ad lib the line "artist of the millennium" when introducing Jackson, who came on stage to accept the award which apparently doesn't exist. Jackson, holding something with a bow (possibly a b-day present from the music channel), launched into a warm and heartfelt speech where he thanked David Blaine amongst other people, and seemed to be extremely honored. MTV denies that such an award exists and everything adds to the uncomfortable drama that comes with a room full of musicians and actors trying to be funny or spontaneous.
