R.E.M. Howl and Get Into DVD Re-Release Territory

The golden children of Athens, GA, R.E.M., are in the midst of writing and recording a follow-up to 2001's Reveal. The band, which is now down to the trio of Michael Stipe, Mike Mills and world's most calm air traveler Peter Buck will release their 13th studio album next year. Stipe told Rolling Stone that the record is heading "into unchartered R.E.M. territory. Kind of primitive and howling. For me, a very exciting trip." For those of you who need a fix to satisfy your R.E.M. jones have two things to look forward to. First, October 1 will be the release date for a Stipe and Matthew Sweet duet, called "Tainted Obligation." The track, written under the name Community Trolls, will feature on a Sweet retrospective called To Understand: The Early Recordings of Matthew Sweet. Then on October 15, the band plan to re-release both Reveal and 1992's sales spectacular Automatic For The People in DVD audio format. Bonus material will include video footage of the making of the albums.
