The holiday season is an exciting time for one and all. Presents, family, booze, and time off from work are all enjoyable parts of the holidays. This year, everyone will have one more reason to celebrate, as Star Wars Episode II will be coming to IMAX theaters across the country. The film, which will undergo the revolutionary IMAX digital re-mastering process, will hit theaters on November 1, 2002. According to Starwars.com, the IMAX release of Star Wars marks the first time that IMAX digital re-mastering has been used to re-master a film originally captured and created in the digital format.
I originally saw the film in one of the few digital projections theaters and the crispness of the image was amazing. Star Wars appearing on a screen that's up to 8 stories high and over a hundred feet wide will definitely take the movie to the next level. In addition, it will give me one more chance to see a bunch of weirdos dressed up in lame, homemade Jedi outfits with plastic light sabers. No offence to any of the Tripwire's extensive group of users with sci-fi dork tendencies (or to the writer of this story, who is still in denial that he attended the premiere dressed as Greedo - Ed.).
