10 items or less, Sam Bisbee stepped to the check out line last night, finishing what was quite the resident spree at Arlene Grocery. From the sweltering days of summer to this, our first taste of cool Autumn, Sam Bisbee has been bringing us very fine, sensible pop mechanics and a well tuned head-nodding machine to the stage of Arlene Grocery. Clean, serene, songcraft with a touch of "please tap your toes to this," Sam Bisbee and crew delivered what is undoubtedly a welcome presence in NYC's "I wanna be a rock star yet again" scene.
The rythym section killed, with Dan seriously picking away the bass strings and Mike keeping so-solid time on a no frills, no-nonsense kit. I must say I found it very hard to refrain from using my neck and face muscles and losing my too-cool-for-you looks. Now add to all this a stellar appearance by the ever-fabulous Amy Miles on the set fave, "Miracle Car," and this last hurrah show really shined like a "take your time on Saturday" Turtle Wax finish, with Armor All detailing. If you haven't heard of Sam Bisbee yet, I think you will do yourself a nice favor by lending an ear to his latest DIY CD, Vehicle. Trust me. If you're yearnin' to be touched in your cubicle or that place where the walls meet the mirrored ceilings/mirrored floors, Vehicle drives it home and Sam's shows are well worth the price of an Amco gallon.
