Jimmy Fallon Takes A Lead Roll In Steve Martin's Shopgirl Film

Weekend Update-anchoring, VMA-hosting funnyman, Jimmy Fallon, has signed on to play a lead role in the forthcoming film Shopgirl. According to MTV, the big-screen adaptation of the legendary Steve Martin's novella of the same name will also star Martin himself and Claire Danes. Steve Martin also wrote the script and will serve as the film's executive producer along with Lakeshore Entertainment. Production for the film is scheduled to get rolling in January. No word on an anticipated release date as of yet.

Shopgirl tells the story of a Neiman Marcus clerk who's heart is torn between a rich, divorced man, and a starving-artist musician. Martin commented about the film while hosting the Academy Awards last year, saying, "Several producers came to me and wanted to turn [the book] into a movie. And I said, 'Look, if you think you're going to take this book and change it around and Hollywood-ize it and give it a new ending... well, that's going to cost you.' "
