As previously reported, Hildur Runa Hauksdottir (a.k.a. Bjork's mom) mounted a hunger strike earlier this month to protest US-based Alcoa's plans for a $3 billion power plant in the Icelandic highlands. However, after losing 14 lbs, experiencing some slight memory loss, and possibly a few hallucinations, Hauksdottir decided to call it quits. She began eating again last Sunday (10/27), but claimed to have achieved her goal ? drawing global attention to Alcoa and the Icelandic government's environmentally destructive plans.
According to NME, Bjork flew to Iceland to see her mom over the weekend. Speaking about her daughter Hauksdottir said, "She was pleased to hear that I had decided to stop the strike, of course. Yet she would have supported me if I had decided to continue, as well I might."
