In news that shouldn't surprise anyone, given the tragedy of last week, Run-DMC have put away the mic for the final time. The band has acknowledged that DJ and founding member Jam Master Jay aka Jay Mizell is irreplaceable, and therefore, there is no way the band can go on. A press conference was held to disclose the start of a coalition to help Mizell's family and to help in the capture of Jam Master Jay's murder, a coalition whose numbers include fellow band members Joseph Simmons and Darryl McDaniels, as well as Island/Def Jam Chairman Lyor Cohen, Aerosmith, Ja Rule, Jay-Z, and NY Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
At the press conference, the announcement was made, with Simmons stating, "As a tribute to the positive legacy of Jam Master Jay, we started together and we want the Run-DMC legacy to always reflect the three of us together." The police are still working on catching the murderer, with a $50,000 reward already being offered up by the newly-formed coalition.
