Matt Sharp Returns With Solo Acoustic Record

Can't get enough Weezer or ex-Weezer side project news? Then you're in luck! One-time Weezer bassist and Rentals frontman Matt Sharp has resurfaced, this time in a solo capacity. Evidently, he does not yet have a record deal for his solo project, but, perhaps, he's hoping to potentially fund it with his court winnings from his pending case against his Weezer mates over royalties. This self-titled solo work, however, is much different than anything that preceded it. There are none of the usual instruments: no drums, no bass, no electric guitars, no synthesizers. It seems to just be acoustic guitar-based. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Sharp characterized the music as "acoustic and ambient" and falling in a sonic range "somewhere between Hope Sandoval and Mark Hollis (ex-frontman of Talk Talk)." The album is due out in March and also features contributions from one-time Rentals man Josh Hager and former Cake guitarist Greg Brown.
