For those who relived the Southern California skateboarding revolution of the 1970s via the documentary Dogtown and Z-Boys, get ready for another exciting flashback. David Fincher (Panic Room, Fight Club, Se7en) will direct and executive produce Lords of Dogtown, a feature length movie for Columbia Pictures. The Hollywood Reporter explains that the film will begin shooting later this year, and casting directors are in search of five lead males. The script is written by Stacy Peralta (who wrote and directed the documentary Dogtown and Z-Boys) and is based around a Spin magazine article that explore skateboarding in the '70s, and will also implement fictionalized scenarios from Dogtown.
Basically this will be a commercialized version of the highly inspirational film responsible for sparking the wildfire of modern day ìExtremeî sports like surfing, snowboarding, and the X-Games. One would think this major motion picture would overlook the gritty underground feel, and artistic integrity of the documentary, but something tells me David Fincher and Stacy Peralta won't let that happen.
