After weeks of speculation, Blur have named their new live guitarist. The man behind the axe for the London trio is indeed from a "well-known band from the north of England," as frontman Damon Albarn had said previously, but it is not any of the guitarists whose names were bandied about at that time. It is actually Verve live guitarist Simon Tong, who more recently had been a member of The Shining, before internal problems caused Epic to shelve that album for the forseeable future. Tong has not joined Blur permanently, as the band say that no one can replace founding member Graham Coxon, but he has been practicing with the remaining three members in preparation for future live events. Blur actually rocked an impromptu jam session with extra percussion and back-up singers at a record label function in London last Friday, where they unleashed three new tracks.
