MuchMusic USA Changes Its Name To Fuse

In an attempt to distinguish itself from a market dominated by MTV and its 2,423 other music related networks, MuchMusic USA will change its name to Fuse. The new name references the "plugged-in" world that the network's target audience (12-34 year-olds) inhabits. Broadband Internet, cell phones, pagers, two-ways, and hand-helds are all an integral part of modern life and Fuse will utilize them all to create a level of interactivity not available with its competitors. Fuse will take programming cues from its viewers, will air short videos made by viewers, and has developed a new program called IMX: Interactive Music Exchange. IMX is a fantasy football game of sorts for the music industry. Fans will be able to pick and trade artists via the network's website and will win prizes based on the success of their roster. To broadcast IMX and the rest of the network's programming, Fuse has built a new $12 million studio with windows open across the street from Madison Square Garden. According to the Associated Press, MuchMusic USA will officially become Fuse on May 19.
