World-renowned DJ/producer Christopher Lawrence was recently the cause of quite a scare at Los Angeles' LAX airport. According to Mi2N.com, federal authorities found traces of explosives on a box of music equipment the DJ was shipping to Melbourne, Australia, in order to set up a recording studio. The LAX officials called in the Air Transportation Authority, Bomb Squad, Federal Security, and the FBI to solve the problem. Part of the United Airlines international terminal was also evacuated, causing delays to outgoing flights. Lawrence was then reportedly detained for two hours and underwent questioning from 30 different officials. Just a few months ago, he was accepting the "Best DJ" award at the DanceStar USA 2002 awards, but a statement released by Lawrence upon his release seems to find him in good spirits. Lawrence said, "Times have changed. Ten years ago I used to get stopped in customs due to suspicions of drugs. Now I am being detained by the FBI and the Bomb Squad for allegedly carrying explosives. It's not easy being a DJ." Ahh yes, the unforgiving lifestyle of the DJ is not an easy one, but thankfully, Lawrence was able make it out of this ordeal unscathed.
Lawrence's latest mix CD, Exposure 4, was released in November of last year on System Recordings.
