Rock & roll icon Iggy Pop has recorded a song with Sum 41 that is likely to be the first single for his forthcoming new album, Skull Ring, due later this year. The track, "Little Know It All," was penned as a collaboration between Pop, Sum 41's Deryck Whibley and Sum 41 producer/manager Greig Nori. According to Rolling Stone, Virgin Records contacted Nori in January about producing and writing a song for Pop. Nori then brought Whibley into the mix and began trading ideas over the phone and via the internet. "We went for a Social Distortion kind of sound," said Nori, "A little bit slower paced, but real rockin'." They then sent a raw demo to Iggy, who loved it, and were in the studio with the legend two weeks later.
Nori, Whibley, and Pop then sat down and cranked out the lyrics in about an hour. Pop hit the vocal booth to lay down the vocals and Sum 41 and company were admittedly excited. Nori told Rolling Stone, "Nothing hammered home the fact that we were recording an Iggy Pop song until he sang it the first time. "All of us got giggly and turned into little kids. As soon as I heard it come through the speakers, I was like, 'Oh my God, it's that voice. Holy fuck!' . . . the more I hear the song I think it's a hit."
