Emotions were running high in San Francisco on Thursday evening. It was to be my final popscene until Christmas, as I was leaving the City By The Bay for London in five days. After over seven and half years, popscene would no longer be my be all and end all on Thursday nights. For my sendoff, we had Denmark's Junior Senior playing live and it would not be a night to forget.
I only have one thing to say: when Junior Senior comes to your town, GO. This Danish hooligan collective was the most fun and entertaining band I'd seen in the last four years, on par with Fischerspooner. With six members on stage, including the Crunchy Frog label head on drums, accompanying Junior, Senior, the bassist and tag team boy/girl backing vocalists, these kids were all about being super into their music and getting the crowd to dance. And dance they surely did. Premier single "Move Your Feet" elicited the greatest response, but the full-on rock disco of "Go Junior Go Senior," "Shake Your Coconuts," "Good Girl Bad Boy" and "White Trash" all rocked the house with equal passion. All the members of the band danced and jumped around stage, with the hulking, good-natured presence of Senior commanding the most attention. They repeatedly gave shoutouts to the Danish tourists in the audience and had more energy than a case of Duracell batteries. It was an amazing live experience and a perfect ending to my popscene run. Be sure not to miss JS in your town; it'll be a night to remember.
