Punk-pop all-stars, Blink-182 will debut a new song called "Action" in EA Sports' monster video game franchise, Madden NFL 2004. According to video game headquarters Gamestop.com, the game has an estimated release date of August 12, 2003, so die-hard Blinksters will need to shell out 50 bucks or so to hear new Blink material. However, most kids would most likely be shopping around for a football game anyway, and the new Blink track will likely pull some fans away from competing game developers, not to mention attract new fans for the band. The teaming of rock bands and video game developers has begun to take off and will likely continue to grow, as it's a win/win situation for all parties involved.
Good Charlotte's "Anthem" was included in last year's Madden, as was OK Go's "Get Over It." XBOX's first football release, NFL Fever, featured music from N*E*R*D, before their Shortlist Music Prize-winning album, In Search OfÖ was even released. The cross-promotional opportunities are endless and young musicians are eager to get involved (which helps). Good Charlotte's Billy Martin said, "Once we got into a video game, we knew we'd made it. These things really help pass the time on a tour bus. Publishers are now asking for original songs for their games - every time they do, we say yes." (hint hint)
According to Rolling Stone, Blink-182 are currently working on the follow-up to 2001's Take Off Your Pants And Jacket with producer Jerry Finn.
