Mottola Plays It Again Sam; Casablanca Records Back - With Universal





Ex-Sony Music kingpin Tommy Mottola has resurfaced and heís back in a big way. Mottola and longtime friend Doug Morris are joining forces at Universal Music Group. Mottola is due to resuscitate the Casablanca imprint, best known as the previous home to Kiss and Donna Summer in the rip-roariní ë70s. Initially, Mottola was believed to receive a Sony imprint, after being forced out as head last January, so this news of signing up with Universal is a bit of a shock, irrespective of his relationship with Morris. $50 million was his asking price and Universal stepped forward with the dosh, so it will be interesting to see what sort of acts Casblanca brings through the ranks and their correlating success.
