2003's Downloaded Ringtone Sales Expected To Hit £70M In UK

In news that has industry suits grinning from ear to ear, the UKís Mobile Data Association released the projected sales figures for mobile phone ringtones. The money spent on tones is expected to increase 60% this year over last, jumping from £40m to an estimated £70m this year. So whatís the big deal? Well for one, according to the BBC, labels make more money off ringtones than they do singles. Also, the ringtone phenomenon is exceptionally hot in the UK, where impressionable youths will change theirs weekly or even multiple times a week, even at £1.50-£3 a pop, with the best tones carrying some sort of status. Remember when kids used to just collect Garbage Pail Kids instead? With labels complaining so much about lost revenue due to file trading, they will look upon these new figures very favorably as a very viable revenue stream opens up.
