Mike Gordon, who plays bass for hippie messiahs Phish, was arrested for endangering the welfare of a minor after a Dead concert when he was found in a deserted boathouse with a nine-year-old girl. The girl's parents raised an alarm when they realized their daughter had disappeared from the back stage area at Jones Beach Theater, reported WNBC-TV. Gordon was found and held by theater security at 1 a.m. and a police report says that, "The defendant stated he wanted to take 'art photos' of the victim." Major Richard O'Donnell of the New York State Police said, "The area is actually like a work area for state employees who operate boats out of that area. It's a darkened area, not intended for public access."
Here's the kicker though, the girl's father is a leader of the Hell's Angels. He and his "associates," actually aided theater security in holding Gordon until Police arrived at the scene. As you might imagine, law-enforcement sources told WNBC-TV that the Hell's Angels "were not gentle with sensitive areas of the rock star's body." OUCH! They wear steel-toed boots right?
The DA of Nassau County is currently evaluating the evidence, but it appears that the Phish member may be off the "hook." The band's manager and the father have had a few phone conversations and it's now questionable as to whether Gordon will avoid facing charges. Phish's manager emailed a joint statement from Gordon and the child's parents that reads, "It is now clear to all involved that this was an unfortunate misunderstanding, and we look forward to putting this matter behind us."
