Another night, another new venue. This gig-going lark is fun, isnít it? Not only a new-to-me venue, but a chance to see Spiritualized in a venue far smaller than where they should be playing The first of two nights at Camden Electric Ballroom was an excellent opportunity for the boys to warm up for their upcoming tour and to wow the crowd with selections from their brand new long-player, Amazing Grace.
Jason Pierce and crew ambled on stage and started the psychedelic blues rock explosion. Each of the early songs came from different albums and the back-lit stage set up had the bulbs changing color with each song, almost coordinating different colors for different time periods. Especially strong early was the powerful ìCome Together,î which was followed up by brand new single and #1 Specialty Radio smash ìShe Kissed Me (It Felt Like A Hit)î. Pierce remained seated throughout the entire show, but the spacegospel he and his bandmates were producing was as mighty as ever. Amazing Grace tunes ìThis Little Life Of Mineî and ìNever Goin' Backî exploded in live form, nearly ripping the roof off the venue. My only complaint on the night was the brevity of the set, at just over an hour and 15 minutes. But, with the classic ìRun" closing out the show and the tight quarters, everything was well worth it all around. The spacebluesgospel rock onslaught is on its way. Catch it while you can. Mad thanks to Drew Murray and Frank Gironda for letting me weasel my way into this hyper-sold out gig.
