Peaches kicked off her American tour last night at club Fiveís electroclash themed night. The promoters usually hold Electrotease on Fridayís so I can forgive them slightly for the incredibly late start time on a school night. Opening act Electrocute hit the stage around 11:30 PM for a crowd eager to shake what their mamma gave ëem. The two-piece, Nicole and Mia, fit their name when it comes to cute, strutting to recorded tracks and keeping the packed club two stepping. The duo ended their set triumphantly crowd surfing their way off stage.
One act down, one to go. In between sets, Fiveís DJ kept the crowdís beats per minute up, with the biggest response coming on a bootleg that mixes Nirvanaís ìCome As You Areî with ìEmergeî by Fisherspooner. The clock getting ever closer to 1 AM, the crowd was definitely ready for Peaches to let loose on her first solo show in DC (she played here once before with her Berlin mate Gonzales). Attired in some short white shorts, bra and what I think was a latex chastity belt (notice I didnít mention underwear), Peaches set the crowd off with tracks from her new release, Fatherfucker. The belt came off early on, serving as a nice stage prop during ìShake Yer Dixî. The crowd ate it all up, singing the chorus to nearly every song from the new record as well as some slices off of her Teaches of Peaches CD, including, ìFuck The Pain Awayî, featured prominently in the Sofia Coppolaís Lost in Translation.
With the Fatherfucker tour off and running, itís safe to say Peaches is definitely in season this fall. The same bill makes it way through the U.S. for the rest of the month.
