Kish Kash

It would almost be impossible for Kish Kash, the new album from Basement Jaxx to suck. Not only are the ëJaxx one of the most talented acts in the dance world today, but they brought in some seriously high-profile buddies to help them on their third record. From the kick-off track, ìGood Luck,î featuring The Bellraysí Lisa Kekaula on vocals, itís a humdinger. That lead-off rocktastic song leads into a soulful house number fronted by Meshell Ndegeocello then to a straight BUMPINí jam with Mercury Music Prize winner Dizzee Rascal laying down the rhymes. A truly varied record, each track winds its way down a different maze-like path, but the duo of Simon Ratcliffe and Felix Buxton must have brought tons of bread crumbs along, because they always make it back without heading off somewhere indulgent or unlistenable. ìCish Cash,î featuring the goth queen Siouxsie Sioux is amazing, as her ever-recognizable and haunting voice soars over the tight beats. Even the track with JC Chasez of íN Sync is a keeper and may even help the ëJaxx cross over. More power to ëem, I say.
