Superstar producers Chad Hugo and Pharrell Williams, along with hometown friend Shay, have finished work on the second album from their alter-ego rock band, N*E*R*D. Entitled Fly Or Die, the album will hit shelves on March 9 via our friends at Virgin. Last weekend, the trio shot a video for the album’s first single, “She Likes To Move,” with director Dave Meyers. Meyers, who describes the song as “old school rock and roll” and likens it to “the old Queen days,” has also been behind the camera for Missy Elliott and OutKast in recent history.
As previously reported, Minneapolis’ Spymob, who acted as N*E*R*D’s backing band on their Mercury Music Prize-winning debut, In Search OfÖ, do not perform on Fly Or Die. Instead, Williams and Hugo play nearly all the instruments on the forthcoming album themselves. There is one exception though. MTV reports that The Roots’ ?uestlove was in the studio drumming on the Fly Or Die just last week in N*E*R*D’s hometown of Virginia Beach, VA.
