The Grey Album

Obviously, all the talk lately has been about DJ Dangermouseís The Grey Album, especially with yesterday being Grey Tuesday. What better time to review the album? It is a truly special piece of work. A brief rundown for those unfamiliar with the concept: all the beats have been sampled and rejigged from The Beatlesí White Album while all the vocals are from The Black Album by Jay-Z. Itís the worldís longest mashup, but with even more genius involved. The sound of this record is amazing, from the staccato beats, to the new melodies formed from the Beatles initial plans. Jay-Z sounds like he planned it from the beginning, the vocals pair with the music so beautifully. This is the underlying brilliance from DJ Dangermouse. He has managed to make a record sound perfectly in time with the present, although the music was recording originally in 1968. ìJustify My Thug,î ìWhat More Can I Say,î ìDecember 4th,î and ìEncoreî are all amazing. Do what you have to do, but get a hold of this record. It must be heard to be believed.
