The cast and crew of Batman Begins have started work on the latest dark night film in Iceland. The forthcoming film, which Warner Bros. hopes to have in theaters by summer 2005, will be directed by Christopher Nolan, whose past directorial efforts include Memento and Insomnia. MTV News reports that the film will focus on Bruce Wayne's first days as Batman and Gotham City's initial reaction to the crime fighting vigilante. Master character actor Gary Oldman is the latest and probably the last major addition to the cast. Oldman will play Lieutenant James Gordon - Commissioner Gordon as a young man.
Rounding out the cast are Christian Bale (Bruce Wayne/Batman), Michael Caine (Alfred), Katie Holmes (Rachel) Liam Neeson (Henri Ducard) and Morgan Freeman (Lucius Fox). Oscar nominee Ken Watanabe will play the villain, Ra's Al Ghul.
Production on Batman Begins will eventually move to London and Chicago before wrapping up.
