Between Darkness & Wonder

Ahhh, Lamb. When they jumped on the scene in 1996 at the height of the drum & bass revolution, I was a bit scared of their ramshackle beats. They were scary, scary I tell you! After repeated listens, however, the angelic voice of Louise Barlow won me over with her otherworldly melodies. Now, three albums along, the duo of Barlow and Andy Robinson are back with Between Light & Darkness. gone is much of the scattershot percussion and in its place is a more down-tempo perspective. Cohabitating in the land of Massive Attack or Mono, the lush music bed provides a perfect landing spot for Barlowís voice to float down after scraping the stars, as on ìLearn,î "Open Up," ìStronger,î and ìWonder.î ìSunî and ìSugar 5î are faster-paced takes on a similar formula, ìSunî adding a world music tack, while the stand-up bass is the star of ìSugar 5,î reinvigorating the Lamb sound of albums past. If you have ever been moved by the amazing voice of Louise Barlow or taken in by the musical arrangements of partner-in-crime Andy Robinson, itís time to redirect your attention to Lamb. In like a lion, as they sayÖ
