Legendary Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain's Mosrite Mark IV electric guitar will be available for sale to the public on April 17 through Dallas-based Heritage Galleries and Auctioneers and will coincide with the 27th annual Dallas Guitar Show and Music Fest. According to Billboard, the axe's original case sports the words "Nirvana" and "Fuck Elvis." The guitar itself is a right-handed model that was modified for a lefty guitarist and is the only known example of a Mark IV-style Mosrite Gospel (solid-body rather than the typical Gospel hollow body). Cobain bought the guitar in 1990 in San Francisco and sold it two years later.
Semi-recent auctions of guitars once owned by Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton brought in hundreds of thousands of dollars each. Time will tell if collectors will place the same value on Cobain's instrument, as this will be the first time since his death that one of the Nirvana frontman's guitars has been made available for sale to the public.
