With two new DVDs centering around the legendary Detroit rock band the MC5 on the way, the three surviving members have revealed plans for a supporting tour. Guitarist Wayne Kramer, bassist Michael Davis and drummer Dennis "Machine Gun" Thompson are currently organizing a tour as DKT/MC5. They've recruited a number of special guests to hold down the vocal duties, including Evan Dando, Marshall Crenshaw, Mudhoney's Mark Arm, Radio Birdman's Deniz Tek and The Hellacopters' Nicke Royale. There are no solid details surrounding the tour as of yet, but according to Rolling Stone, it will kick off in June and venture throughout the US, Europe, Australia and Japan.
The first of two forthcoming DVDs, Sonic Revolution: A Celebration Of The MC5 is due on July 6th. It features footage shot at a London concert last year when the three surviving members of the band were joined onstage by Ian Astbury, Royale, Motorhead's Lemmy Kilmister, The Damned's Dave Vanian and more. A 30-minute documentary with interviews and U.S. Defense Department footage (shot during the 1968 Democratic National Convention) is also included.
The second of two DVDs, entitled MC5: A True Testimonial, was due to be released in May, but has been put on infinite hold due to publishing clearance issues.
