Ex-Smashing Pumpkin/Hole bassist Melissa Auf Der Maur has joined up with the Offspring for a quick tour to coincide with the release of debut solo album. This will be a year of firsts for the sultry four-stringer, as the tour will be her first Stateside solo jaunt as well. Auf Der Maur told Billboard that the tour begins May 11 in Minneapolis, one week before the May 18 release date of Auf Der Maur, the album.
Guitarist Steve Durand, who was a member of her pre-Pumpkins outfit Tinker, will be part of Auf Der Maur's backing band, as will Josh, a guy she first met at a Pumpkins in-store in Minneapolis - small world.
Masters Of Reality's Chris Goss produced the forthcoming solo album, which features a number of Auf Der Maur's rock star friends as special guests. Josh Homme, Mark Lanegan, Twiggy Ramirez, James Iha and Eric Erlandson (Hole) are among the special guests.
Melissa Auf Der Maur is currently warming up for her Offspring jaunt with an intimate club tour of Europe, the type of tour she expects to bring to the US later this summer.
