Last month, we gave you the heads up that the surviving members of legendary rock act The MC5 are planning a tour and DVD release. The band, which will take the moniker DKT/MC5 will begin that tour in Toronto on June 9. The trek will be a short one, with only five confirmed North American dates thus far. The band has also been confirmed for two dates in Japan as part of the Summer Sonic Festival. As previously reported, a number of rotating special guests, including Evan Dando, Marshall Crenshaw, Mark Arm (Mudhoney), and Deniz Tek (Radio Birdman), have been recruited to join the group at their various tour stops.
A DVD entitled Sonic Revolution: A Celebration Of The MC5 will be released in July via guitarist Wayne Kramer's indie label, MuscleTone Records and Image Entertainment. It will feature footage from a March 2003 concert in London with Dave Vanian of The Damned, Lemmy of Motorhead and Ian Astbury of the Cult.
A second DVD release for the documentary MC5: A True Testimonial was scheduled for release this year, but various legal disagreements between Kramer and the film's producers have now put that release in doubt. As of now, it looks as if negotiations have come to a halt, so don't hold your breath.
