Das Not Compute

Goteborg, Sweden in the house! Not only is Swedenís second city the countryís ìgateway to the Westî but itís also home to rockers Division Of Laura Lee. The Division arenít necessarily the easiest band on the eye, but luckily have a way with the guitar, bass, and drums, that renders their appearance moot. Their sophomore effort, Das Not Compute takes off where their US debut, Black City left off, but takes the band even further into Queens Of The Stone Age territory. For much of DNC, the guitars rev high, pushing the audio red line. Album jump point ìDoes Compute,î ìEndless Factories,î ìQ2,î and first single ìDirty Loveî all fit under this general header, with chugging guitars and sing-along choruses. Itís not all pedal to the rock metal on DNC, as on ìBreathe Breathe,î an eerie Pink Floyd horror movie theme and ìWe Are Numbers,î which rocks, but in a dance floor-friendly stylee. The punked-up Jesus & Mary Chain meets Spiritualized meets MC5 vibe is still prevalent, but the songwriting has grown since Black City and so, hopefully, will their fan base.
