Faded Seaside Glamour

How do labels do it? Do they hatch these sorts of plans in their underground lairs, or their flying Lex Luthor heads, Legion Of Doom style? How do they get the summery sounding records to drop as summer approaches? This time itís the debut from the radiant UK quartet Delays. Gossamer-voiced frontman Aaron Gilbert has built a solid act here, roping in his brother Greg on keys, as well as bass player Colin Fox and a drummer known solely as Rowly. Faded Seaside Glamour, while most likely a dig at the bandís hometown of Southampton, England, is not faded in the least. Instead, itís all shimmering guitars, Gilbertís angelic melodies, harmonies galore, and TUNES by the barrel full. Whether ìNearer Than Heaven,î ìLong Time Coming,î ìHey Girl,î or ìOn,î the hits are plentiful and all of them manage to pair the pop sensibilities of The Laís with the classic harmonies of The Hollies or The Byrds with a splash of the glittering guitars of Lush or Chapterhouse. If that doesnít spell summer, I donít know what does. Jump in to Delaysí Faded Seaside Glamour: the waterís more than fine.
