Mike Skinner (a.k.a. The Streets) will be embarking on his first tour of the US in support of the just-released A Grand Don't Come For Free next month. His third Stateside trek overall, Skinner will kick off the tour at the Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View, CA, as part of Live 105's BFD summer show with The Strokes, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Beastie Boys and more. The very next night, The Streets will team up with fellow UK MC Dizzee Rascal for a show at the Wiltern in LA.
The last time The Streets came through the US, they were riding a wave of outstanding press from Rolling Stone, Spin, and just about every other music magazine from around the world. The slew of great press yielded sold out shows and enthusiastic crowds all across the country. Expect more of the same this year. A Grand Don't Come For Free is again being lauded with praise from the likes of Spin, Blender, Rolling Stone, NMEÖ the list goes on and on.
Skinner's live shows are not to be missed, especially if you like to drink. For the most part, Streets gigs quickly go from concerts to beer-chugging contests, with Skinner and the crowd tossing beer at each other and getting altogether "rowdy!" (said with English accent). Those of you in the front row, be prepared to get a little wet. Might I suggest a poncho?
