Monday Express-Ash Woman Goes Solo; Stars Shine At UK Tributes

Fresh off the success of her primary band, Ash, entering the UK charts at number five with their new long-player, Meltdown, guitarist Charlotte Hatherley has announced plans for her own solo album. Hatherleyís debut record is called Grey Will Fade, and will be released in the UK on August 16 on Double Dragon Records. The album was recorded in LA at the same time as Ashís new LP, and had production magic lent to it by ex-Captain Beefheart man Eric Drew Feldman. No worries, though; Charlotte has no plans to leave her primary act - she's just branching out.

Guest appearances galore were featured this past weekend in the UK. At a charity concert in memorial of ex-New Order manager and Factory Records exec Rob Gratton, Doves were joined on-stage by none other than New Order frontman Bernard Sumner for an acoustic cover of his bandís ìBizarre Love Triangle.î Down in Brighton, a Leonard Cohen-tribute was equally well-represented with star power, as Jarvis Cocker, Nick Cave, Beth Orton and Rufus Wainwright all performed Cohen songs.
